(minor game spoilers) The game as delivered should be played through a minimum of 3 times in sequence. Each will be as a different character, 2B, 9S and A2. Each time through unveils a new flavour and chapter in the story, though you are playing through the same sequence of events from a different perspective. The third play through unveils the final revelations. It is a more or less linear story, and I don't think it would suffer from being told in prose. There are, however, 26 different endings in the game that can be found by fulfilling certain conditions, some easy, some almost astronomically difficult.
