What controversial about bagged milk?

From old Livejournal drama: the fact that it exists at all, mostly from non-canucks. (Although it's also pretty highly dependent on where you've lived in the country, too. You mention bagged milk out here to anyone who's never lived out east, and they look at you like you've grown a second head.)

Bagged milk drama is probably only my second favourite type of pointless drama, though. Yarn drama is the best.

When I was a kid, we had a vacation cottage up in "Cottage Country", around Parry Sound. (I used to know that area well, it has probably changed to unrecognizability after all these years). I vaguely remember when bagged milk came in, replacing milk bottles (I think, or maybe just American-style cardboard cartons). Mother was not impressed. I was not impressed. They were awkward and spill-prone for us.

Parry Sound still seemed fairly quaint last time I was out that way, a few years ago - my husband has some family out there. But I imagine it, like most places, continues to grow up at least a little bit.

The trick with bagged milk is to have the pitcher-holder for 'em that they just pop into. They are pretty sloshy without containment.

Ah, yes, bagged milk. I first encountered it when I was living in Israel; my lack of Hebrew skills made it more challenging until I figured out it was supposed to go in the strange plastic pitcher thing. I think it was cheaper than the shelf-stable stuff, though, so since I was a poor student, I adapted.

Milk and butter in my families tradition... also I use the hand held mixer so the potatoes are whipped rather than mashed.
