I converted my finger brace from something resembling a monkey trap (where the bottom flange flares out, ensuring that my finger gets stuck in the handle of the water jug every time that I use it) to something with a nice sharp short edge on the bottom flange that can gouge a hole in my injured finger in a surprisingly short time.

A little filing and some tape appears to have fixed this oversight.

Good thing you had the file and tape! I hope you bandaged the hole, too.

No, I find cuts are more likely to get infected if I cover them so I just cleaned it with rubbing alcohol.

Does that mean you were just putting the bandaid on, not first smearing some antibiotic cream on? I use generic neosporin and then, well, not a bandaid because I'm allergic to them, but a wrap of gauze and vet wrap to hold it in place.

Um, I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that one reason the splint is shaped the way it is (or was, in this case) is so that you don't do things like use the injured finger to lift a water jug. And so the end of the splint doesn't gouge a hole in your finger. But you already figured that part out.
