The crew of the Boundless Enthusiasm rescued three of the five survivors, dealt with the doomsday device in a safe and responsible manner *and* strictly speaking only tipped one of the two survivors they killed from full health to dead; the other one was dying anyway.

See, the thing about long time RPGers is they have absolutely no hesitation on learning some ambitious idiot is planning to kill all the witnesses before legging it with a Doomsday Device to getting their face guy to inveigle the black hat into an extended version of the "I regret the need to kill you puny fleshies" speech so their ship has time to discharge every weapon on board in the direction of the bad guy. Pity about the innocent engineer next to the bad guy but the engineer was dying.

There was a small change the PCers would been annihilated when the damaged DdD was set off but better than than letting crazy messianic cyborg dude walk away with the device.

The official report will play up "terrorist" and play down "cyborg". My cyborg character was very firm on that point.

Only the fact my character is a cheerful cyborg is keeping him from rounding up the five surviving plutocrats and 0.01%ers on the wrecked/sabotaged space luxury cruiser and spacing the lot of them.

At least there's the prospect of a doomsday device to keep him distracted.

Called in to double check an official report on a dead engineer, we discovered a poorly done coverup, an unsuspected godlike but mindless being sucking feeding off the energy collectors (turns out trying to starve it until it was small enough to drown in a tub was a bad idea; it gets testy) and a pretty major case of industrial theft unrelated to the theft the team probably would have missed if the cover-up had not been so ham-fisted.

My character really really wanted to keep the mindless, godlike being as a ship's mascot (although it would added about five million a year to upkeep, which for the record is four million a year cheaper than it costs to keep the cyborg going) but even though he's the boss, he got argued out of it.

I guess the crooked execs thought "incompetent engineer blew herself up" would get less official attention and less chance of a group of investigators showing up than "weird energy being, possibly class K, hanging around the facility".

And having the reason involve Class K organisms. In Ashen Stars or at least our little version of it, handling a Class K infestation by glassing the planet is permitted.
