A bicyclist seen tonight

Some kid, maybe ten. I first noticed him wobble across Benton, cutting across the oncoming traffic lane at the center of the block to reach the lane going his way. He didn't die doing this because the light at Benton and King was red so there were no cars in the oncoming traffic lane and the lane he was trying to merge with had no moving cars. Despite the traffic light being against him, he continued happily across the busiest street in the core.

What made it particularly special?

He took his helmet off half way across the intersection so that he could scratch his scalp.
