I just had to toss my favorite boots for this reason. I had already replaced that zipper once. It just wasn't worth it a second time. :(

I take my most comfortable clothing when I travel, and discard it at the destination so I don't have to bring back dirty laundry.

That failed on my most recent trip, when my pants tore down the side seam during dinner.

Partly because the less comfortable items tend to be avoided in a long series of not-always-conscious decisions, unless nothing else is clean/suitable. So they don't wear out as fast.

Edit: I just can't visualize anyone saying to themselves "Nice day! I think I'll wear my uncomfortable shirt!"

Too true. Just had to buy a new jacket, new trousers, and new shoes.

The shoes are the worst. Never yet bought a new pair of shoes that don't bring up blisters the first week I wear them.

My sister has the ability to buy me really comfortable turtleneck shirts. When I buy my own, I never manage to duplicate this.

Otherwise all my clothing conforms to the above rule.
