The problem with quotations on the internet is that the internet is about as clearly sourced as a very unclearly sourced thing indeed. It doesn't just assign quotes incorrectly; on occasion, the internet has pursued witticisms down alleyways to beat them unconscious and randomly assign them to other people.
The Twitter manifestation of the phenomenon's even got its own name - Attribution Decay, coined by William Gibson (presumably as he's credited with an awful lot of internet aphorisms due to it).
