I was pleased, but definitely surprised. I'm not sure how much it will help, given the natural cycles of communities, but it sure as heck can't hurt.

I'm wondering when the other shoe will drop or how long this interest by management at actually having staff dedicated to boosting lJ's usage will last. I suspect when they fire or elimate the position of the person doing all this, we'll be back to things as usual. (When I was at Excite, watching the slowly sinking ship, I saw the same roller coaster ride. Sigh.)

Nicely mixed metaphor.

I picture a very large ship, with a roller coaster mounted on it, sliding slowly beneath the waves, bow upturned. The tilt is making the roller coaster ride even more exciting for the screaming passengers.

In my mind, there are also flames somewhere.

And a calliope, maybe two, determined to keep playing as the ship goes down.

I'm starting to think that the latest change in ownership might have brought about a change for the better.

I'm feeling more hopeful about the direction of LJ than I have in a while, but so many people have already drifted away that it's never going to be the same. (And they haven't all gone to DW -- my DW readinglist is even deader than my flist, most days, except that I keep a lot of my feeds there.)

I must admit I spend a lot more time over at G+ these days, but the prospect of not losing my custom friends page (with all five people that still post there) may be enough to keep me checking in for a while longer. If they got a handle on the spam issue I might even start posting publicly again.

I spend most of my time at G+ as well. It's not a great substitute for LJ, being more like an upgraded Twitter, but at least it's not Facebook. Also, I figure being an early adopter might help when Google launches it's orbital laser system.

Hmm! Are there any interesting fandom blogs you'd recommend on G+? I mostly have real life friends and gaming people on mine.

Honestly, I don't have that many, and they aren't that busy. There's Space and Science on Google+ (which attract a fair number of kooks), sci-fi, sci-fi (discussion), Science Fiction, Captioneers (adding better captions to classic pictures), World Building (quiet), and the like.

My flist started emptying out in 2005 when Facebook started taking off. It took a long time for me to be comfortable talking to people I never actually met, but a couple years ago I figured out a method to meet new people to read and talk to that worked for me, and now my friends page is just as busy as it was in 2003.
