I just misread your comment as "Elvises in space!" Which would be a rather different movie, and probably a more entertaining one.

Oh, yes, there's a lot you can do with "Elvises in space!" Parody and non-parody.

I suspect it won't be good, but the aesthetic contrast between teal-and-orange SF and small town Americana is intriguing.

But they could instead be making sequels to The Matrix. You know, the movie that called out for a sequel but which never actually happened?

Actually, I rather liked Matrix Reloaded, as it shook up the setting and introduced new and interesting elements. Unfortunately, the third movie failed to follow up properly, falling flat and pulling the second one down with it.

It's just that "Genetically Determined Chosen One" is so convenient! It lets you combine your viewpoint character with your MacGuffin, without actually requiring your viewpoint character to have ever actually done anything notable in their life.

We need a lot more thought to be put into developing a better class of MacGuffins.

I want a story in which there are multiple genetically determined chosen ones, so they are constantly fighting each other to rule, while we go on happily ignoring them.

The real story is in the hapless folk caught up in their collateral damage, of course.

I'm sure they're out there, so suggestions are welcome.

A Clash of Kings

"I'm the son of the king!"
"No you're not, and I'm his brother!"
"Screw both of you! I'm the choice of the lords and knights of the realm!"
"Screw all of you! My lords say we're leaving!"
"Screw all of you! My daddy was the true king, and me and my dragons will show you as soon as I can find your continent!"

From the trailer, I got the idea that the apparent bad guy is another GDCO, who's hunting Jupiter because she could contest his status, and the good guys are bringing Jupiter in because she's personally experienced what it's like to live at the bottom and thus would make for a ruler sympathetic with the ordinary people while simultaneously being acceptable to the GDPowers That Are.

I just read a story like this, but it's in a heavily embargoed publication that I'm not allowed to talk about until it comes out on April 29.

If you see a big book announcement on April 29, though, it's that one.

I'm not sure about that, but I'm pretty sure they've done "corporate drone turns out to be The One" before. Except this time it's a girl, so she's a cleaner and there's fairytale overtones. I will grant that Mila is kind of the Keanu of actresses - at least on the big screen (she seems to have turned to wood after That 70s Show Ended).

While I realize the trailer doesn't have to make sense or relate to the actual movie very much, that went from potentially interesting to gah very quickly, and the more I think about it the more gah arises.
