44 doesn't feel much different from 43.

And tonight, I finally get to see THE INCREDIBLES, which various events have thus far prevented me from seeing. I've covered all the bases for seeing it today, though: there are two copies of the DVD available and three systems to see it on. Assuming this isn't like the COUPLING DVDs, where a good fraction of one printing had a defective section on the disc, I should have seen it by midnight.

I got taken out to dinner yesterday (because the person taking me out observes Lent and I wanted to try a restaurant whose food is meat heavy). The dinner was great but I won't mention where because of what I assume was an unrelated event I want to mention: as I was leaving the restaurant, I had the weirdest event, a sudden taste of acid in my mouth and a total inability to speak, along with some breathing issues. Drinking water seemed to help but my throat is still sore. I blame aging.

It it's reflux, elderflower tea helps a lot. Sr Stuart's Elderflower and Lemon is available in Canada, at least, here.

Ahh, the lovely forties . . . I turned 52 extremely recently. To celebrate, I ... made corned beef and cabbage, because this is the time of year when the good butcher has it.

The nice fellow is pressuring me to do something that's birthdayish, and I just don't know.

I have no opinion on reflux.

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!

Sorry about the reflux. That's what I have, and I take Prilosec daily. They thought I might have a treatable ulcer, but abandoned that line.

The movie is terrific. I have to get the DVD of this one myself.

HBD!

My whole crew, from aged 4 to 48, loved The Incredibles. And the six-year-old wants it for her birthday coming up next week. I think you'll be pleased, too.

We saw it at the drive-in which afforded us opportunity to talk about it freely during the experience. MrsP opined that one character could, after all, fly. I pointed out he was instead "falling with style" -- only after the words were out of my mouth realizing that the whole sequence of images might very well have been homage to exactly that scene in Toy Story The DVD will encourage me to look for James Bond references, DC echos, Marvel touches, Disney magic ... everything. Very Baroque in a cinematic sort of way. With what you bring to the experience from long experience of the various genres I can't help but think you may get it all as gestalt -- which could be dangerous. Good luck.

Happy Birthday! I turned 44 in January. Nope, it didn't feel any different. Some differences I notice between my early 30's and early 40's, though: I feel more competent and self-assured, I have less energy, my libido seems more fixed to my menstrual cycle, I've got more white hairs, I'm more self-disciplined, I'm more patient, and I cope with stress better.

Happy Birthday!

And I certainly hope you enjoy the Incredibles--I already own it (yes, I'm part of the 5,000,000 units sold on the first day). The bloopers aren't the usual Pixar in-character bloopers, but there's a retro Mr. Incredible/Frozone short that's just short of brilliant or stupid. (The one with Mr. Skippydoo. I think that's the rabbit's name. Boy, what a wonderful homage to really bad animation of the late 1960s and early 1970s.)

The "Incredibles Sock Puppets" easter egg is warped in a rather wonderful way.

Happy birthday! And I assure you, 44 is quite different from 43. It's 2 squared times 11, whereas 43 is a prime number. (The last until you turn 47. They're staring to get rarer in this stretch.)

Seriously, have a wonderful year.
