Having gone back to look for the letter to Locus from John Norman complaining that he wasn't on panels there, I also discovered - rediscovered - the proposal for a special Children's Novel Hugo and such, apparently aimed at making sure that mean Ms. Rowling didn't steal any more real Hugos from hardworking SF authors by writing books millions of people love.

This is why I looked at the YA Hugo from the wrong perspective. Humane questioning will, I believe, eventually lead to a confession that the category is intended to celebrate YA fiction, not isolate it, but I was still stuck on a previous conversation. Good to know.

I actually tried reading that in Gru's voice.

It doesn't actually work.

Oh, only "lightbulb" was supposed to be read that way.

I shall always think of that accent as Latverian.

I remember that he griped about not being included, and that he did not get the sympathy he'd hoped for by complaining about it. Upon re-reading, it does not improve with age.

Should I even ask why you went looking for the thing?

To compare and contrast with moaning from this year's Worldcon.

Much of a muchness. He didn't rant against 'liebrals,' but the pithy quote "In Philadelphia the Liberty Bell does not ring" is fully as over-the-top as anything we've heard this year.
