Aw.

Notable for writing one thing that I loved (Rails Across the Galaxy) and another that sickened me so much I couldn't finish it (Evil is Live Spelled Backwards).

Well, that sucks. One more gone. I liked some of his stuff a lot.

Even though recent rereads have detected the telltale sign of the Sexism Fairy, I still really enjoyed the War of Wizards trilogy, which he coauthored with Richard Lyon.

I enjoyed a couple of his novels, back when. I wish I remembered them better. (I donated them to the HS library before graduating.)

At that age I doubt it. Rafael Lafferty and Pat Frank are the longest-lived writing alkies I can think of who didn't get into AA.

(Got to meet Pat Frank once, briefly. My father wrote a history book with him, RENDEZVOUS AT MIDWAY. It was better than anything else my father wrote. Sold better, too.)

Thieve's World and other things.

I picked up Ardor On Aros in an airport back in the '70s and... yeah, a pastiche of the Burroughs's Mars books, but with a really heavy dose of Sex(ism) Sells! added. Moving on, I liked his author's introduction to his short story in Again, Dangerous Visions more than the actual story (which was cute).

He's one of many mid-list authors who've given me a few hours of reading, even if they never made it to the permanent space on my bookshelves, and that's not a back-handed complement. It's a niche that I'm missing more and more.
