Healthy, maybe nine months, male, nine pounds, definitely not fixed. Very friendly to humans. Somewhat distant from my guys. Only took him a few hours to pick out sleeping spots the others cats don't use (foot of bed, top of scratching post). Minor issue in that he is determined to eat all the food.

Could be a cat who got lost but is just the right age to have been dumped...

We went through that with a stray we got through the local Humane Society (found in a snowdrift in late February...the stray, not the Humane Society). She'd apparently been out on her own long enough to get worms and pick up some interesting feeding habits. For a while she'd eat indiscriminately (down to fishing rice out of the garbage; that stopped when we got a lidded garbage can for the kitchen), but eventually it got through her tiny kitty brain that the food supply was reliable enough she didn't need to wrap herself around it to keep it safe.

Oddly enough the feral boy we adopted (and sadly, lost last March to FeLV) adapted very quickly to having a constant source of food, and had Very Firm Opinions on what constituted food and what did not. Chicken was Food And I Will Now Stare At You Until You Give Me More. Beef was I'll Eat It But Please Could I Have More Chicken? Bread was That Is Not Food And Why Are You Even Giving It To Me? [He had a very expressive little face.]

The current set of cats still gets antsy when they can see the bottom of the food dish, regardless of how much else is in the dish.
