The joys of heavy snowfalls

Have I mentioned how much I appreciate having the city push snow from the streets into the ends of driveways (As an unavoidable part of pushing the snow to the edge of the road). One of the lanes I shoveled today has five foot tall pillars of snow at either side of the lane now.

What I wondered, as I was digging into the snow wall, was where do people in places that get regular snowfalls like the one we just got put all the snow? I know there are places that almost as much water in the form of snow as parts of SE Asia get from monsoons. That's lot of shoveling.
