For much the same reasons that led me to say "Perhaps in the spirit of egalitarianism one could eschew naming the goal of getting more women on panels after a man," please don't refer to my on-going f/m documentation as "the Nicoll test".

Eh, can it be a test if the outcome is only implied and not specifically stated? The Bechdall test was a test right from its invention, whereas all you've been doing is compiling stats (I say 'all', clearly it was a lot of work) and letting them tell their own story.

Compiling the stats is MUCH more work than proposing even a somewhat useful test like the Bechdall.

I was thinking about this (after your comment on my post). I like the "Joanna Russ test", myself.

Isn't that something to do with book covers?

There was an article compiled at Strange Horizons with massive data on slush piles... I'm not turning it up in a quick google search though I'm sure I could if I gave it slightly more attention (and may later). But perhaps her last name would be a good selection.

Not that your stats aren't cool and great, but it does seem like there have been women pointing out the disparities for a long time, too, and it's interesting what catches on.

Right; it's clearly a "study", and there isn't any standard "passing" grade. So it'd be "the Nicoll study", cited as the source of data.

In honer of her splendid contribution to the field of science fiction critics, I suggest we rename it to "The Nicoll Test" after your mother*.
