Interesting.

There is probably something wrong with me. I see all that and the first thing I think is. Hmmm. That looks more like an alligator than a crocodile.

AIUI it's this--a Skiffy Channel miniseries.

The linked news articles indicate it's coming from Sky Movies - I'm not certain what the arrangement is why Syfy.

I believe SyFy is releasing it in the US.

So I should have been clearer; apologies for the confusion.

My suspicion - it looks like the only hand Syfy has in this is US broadcast. Or if they've given money, it's just 'first US/NA broadcast' money, and Sky is the entity actually in control of the production. If Sky is in control, I find that much more encouraging than if Syfy were.

So, I'm cautiously optimistic on this.

Really? Bigger names and higher production values than I'd expect from them. Are they not having Asylum do their heavy lifting anymore?

SyFy has two tiers of movies -- the Corman produced schlock like Dinocroc vs Sharktopus, and the high quality miniseries like Battlestar Galactica, Tinman, Children of Dune, The Lost Room, etc. Although the high end stuff has some misfires (Earthsea) it's generally worth watching.

As for this movie ... why do I get a pederast vibe from Capt. Hook?

It seemed to be a Fagin vibe to me.

IMDb is breaking lots lately -- that link doesn't work. And it doesn't work because they're broken, not because you gave a bad link. (If I look for "Neverland" from their top page, and select the one for 2011, it comes up broken.)

The trailer ... looks good. So I am more than a little surprised to find that it's Syfy. Less surprised that, given one of the movies out this summer season, they went with something they could tag as "Before they were enemies, they were friends."

I had the same thing happen--turns out that if you follow the directions on the icon (go to the URL address bar, press Enter, then hit Refresh) the actual IMDB page comes up.

I got it to work by hitting refresh a couple of times. Brokenness on their part.

Design intent. I think they're trying to stop click thru content thieves

Livejournal has an "affiliate link" grab embedded in it somehow. (Dunno, I am not a Comp.Sci guy... I've learned what I've learned about computers by bashing on them until I see something shiny.) IMDB does not like this, and so when it detects a grab it refuses to show the page until the grab is defeated; fortunately, somewhat anyway, IMDB provides a fairly-straightforward way of defeating it.

No, it has nothing to do with LJ -- as I said, I got the error when I started with the IMDb.

Funny, it worked exactly as advertised when I clicked on the link in [livejournal.com profile] tandw's comment. I didn't try to search for it directly.

-- Steve suspects a temporary outage in that case... but the LJ thing seems to happen always.

Why do all sci-fi/fantasy trailers have to have that one shot of a woman dropping her shirt/cloak from her back? It's freaking Neverland. We don't need a sex subplot.

Oh, I dunno. I thought the Captain Hook/Wendy/Peter sex subplot/subtext in the 2003 Peter Pan was just what the old chestnut needed to give it a bit of an edge.

Yes, but that was an edge. Naked women backs are more of a bludgeon.

It worked in Peter Pan because it wasn't overt, just clear enough to be creepy and awkward. Here it's like 'oh, female pirate captain? Of course we need to have her have sex with someone, she can't be female and just being there. Also sex makes us more hardcore'.

Interesting to see Bob Hoskins reprising his role as Smee from Hook without any other noticeable carry-overs. Not that there's anything wrong with reprising Smee, mind you. "An e-piffy-wot?"

A lot of the time in previews, the music is the same because the actual music for the film hasn't been composed/recorded yet. (TVTropes link: Recycled Trailer Music)

And this isn't so much an update as a Darkier and Edgier prequel. Not sure I'm interested, but I can see why somebody else might be.

There's no Wendy -- it looks like they took a few bits of Peter Pan and some of Elizabeth Bonney, and mixed them together.

Hmmm. Maybe it will be "edgy" and have the pre-opps tinkerbell be the love interest of Hook and have her morphed into a good spirit along with peter and the lost boys when they renounce the evil path that he takes his pupils on when he and they become pirates.
