[I've missed some episodes. Sorry about that]

Previously: the party encountered a satyr and his minions. A misunderstanding led to extreme violence but the party managed to patch things up by raising the satyr.

My notes say "brain bleach pre-game conversation". Have fun speculating what that was about.

The survivors of the group the party encountered took the party back to their home village, where through diplomacy and flagrant name-dropping the group managed to convince the elf-welfy types that the party was fighting on the side of good or at least against the Drow. They've been having increasing problems with the Drow; when someone on our side admitted that them helping us could bring heat down on the locals, they pointed out that they are effectively in a state of war already.

"Once again Quinn mocked". Yeah, nice concise notes. Oh, that was in reference to Quinn allegedly being the first one to commit violence when what triggered Quinn's reaction was the satyr entrancing our low will characters with his music.

The elves wanted a favor from the group in return for helping us to find the lost city of TPK. One of their scouts is missing and they wanted the party to go find her. Accompanied by four low level elf hunters, the group set out and in the manner of how protagonists in movies always find parking in front of the building they want to get to, soon heard the missing scout shouting defiantly at someone or something. Or someone and something.

The scout was alive but down, surrounded by vegetable-themed undead.

The other side consisted of undead things that came back in a new and more annoying form if they were killed and some huge thing that could call more monsters to it - I probably should have written down their names. What made combat interesting is that while almost all of the other side were minions, they were minions who were insanely hard to hit and who had no trouble hitting us; I believe a 27 versus fortitude missed on one occasion and that there was at least one AC 30 creature running around, while Quinn was getting hit on any roll higher than 2.

On the plus side, Quinn's resistance to necrotic damage meant they couldn't actually hurt him, so he rolled an impressive bluff roll to convince the other side that he took excessive amounts of damage from necrotic attacks. This got him swarmed by five or six of the other side, setting them up nicely for an area effect attack on the minions.

The attack also did 19 points of damage to Quinn, leaving him with but 14 HP but he judged it worthwhile, probably because he had no idea one of the surviving monsters was going to toss him into the cleric's blade barrier.

Eventually the group caught onto the idea of team work and began taking the creatures down with cooperative attacks. The mage's magic missile also was invaluable. After a long, bloody battle, the party once again found itself the last group standing and as an extra bonus, none of the NPCs got killed (one hit from the undead would have evaporated any one of them, so the group tried to keep the archers behind us, tricky in a mobile fight).

Clarification -- the Satyr and his buddies are not the Elves -- the party went back to the re-vivified Satyr's village and then got directions to the Elven village (which they were to be heading towards on their mission) and then were discovered along the way by a party of Elven Strike Force Rangers. From there, you went to the Elven village after the startling diplomacy and name-dropping you describe.

Further clarification: the undead surrounding the scout were not vegetable-themed: they were, essentially, undead Drow. However, the glade was also populated with a Mossy MindMaster and its Mossling Minions.

As the guilty party, I will provide the statement by request to those who are about to get the brain-bleach and want their brains just that little bit dirtier.

I'm still trying to figure out which feats to apply to the new ranger. (Dragonborn for continuity with the paladin he will replace.) Gotta go for the hunter type, I think: I'm tired of not having a ranged attack.

Yeah -- I suspect that Ranger builds will have you looking for an effective melee attack and not the other way around, but I'm not sure about that.

Depends which ranger type. There are basically four.

The old Two Weapon Ranger. Str-based melee with some thrown weapon powers (throw-and-stab being particularly nasty - throw your handaxe then charge in with your other weapon as an At Will).
The old Archer (with one of the class features confusingly being called the Hunter) - Dex-based ranged damage dealer with some melee powers.
The new Scout. Dex-based melee Two weapon build. Ranged powers involve throwing your off-hand dagger. (Or your off-hand handaxe but it isn't accurate)
The new Hunter. Dex-based ranged controller. Best way to get a melee attack is with Melee Training.

Also... 14? Hah. Been negative too many times to care, bucko.

14 HP is a bad number to enter a blade barrier with. There's a reason my sustain (minor) suddenly went down.

Right, I'd forgotten about going into the blade barrier.

Okay, sympathy from one who has gone negative frequently.

Was...was this your first time? They say you always remember your first time.

This still sounds snarky, and I was going for a light joke.

Sorry.

Yeah, sometimes it sucks to go negative.

No, no; I freely admit Puk is on a first name basis with Boston Brand...

Oh, no. Quinn's first time with negative hit points involved dashing into a room and getting crunched by the other side. This left him bleeding in a corner well away from everyone else.

Then he failed two saves....

Immediately after that he made the deal with Hastur that Quinn thinks will see him rise again if he's killed.

I did the same thing in a game where an NPC made the PCs start laughing uncontrollably. My character argued that a psychic attack is a physic attack, and you can't complain about a counterattack.

NOT TAKING THIS OBVIOUS BAIT

He'd been putting steaks through their artichoke hearts?

There's a Damon Knight short story called "Eripmav" about some space travelers dealing with a vampire-analogue on a world of sentient plants (so the "vampire" is a sap-sucker) where the closest thing they have to trees is the cured hide of a local animal.

They track it down to its pot of soil from its home country, and bury it with a steak through its heart.
