Vaguely baffled

Pharyngula disagrees with spending priorities in the US.

1: Excessive education causes undesirable frequency of class ascension by the lower classes, who will then want stuff like voting rights and not being treated like property. Why should people already at the top want this?

2: Outspending everyone else combined militarily is peacock feathers for great powers.

3: While it seems likely much of official policy in intended to provide enough dead bodies to prevent the universe from collapsing every 52 years, not everything the US does is disliked by the people on the receiving end:

Nothing teaches like actually playing around with something

In M&M, a well-coordinated SWAT team can actually be a serious impediment for the non-godlike characters. A Paragon or a Powerhouse can probably just ignore them but a careless warrior thinking a defensive value of 10 keeps them safe from people with puny attack values of 6 is going to run into the law of averages pretty quickly. Five cops in service of their dark plutocratic gods open fire, as they do, probably one of them connects and with a toughness rating of 8 and a target number of 19, they take damage half the time. On 6-10, it's a -1 penalty for combat checks, and on 1-5 they are dazed as well.

Next round the cops odds of connecting has gone up slightly....

Fighting defensively addresses much of this but I bet I will forget to say my PC is doing that, just like Otho used to forget to turn on his ring of protection.

So far the characters in the upcoming M&M campaign include a leftie/anarchist lawyer whose client list includes some c-list super-crooks, an (1) electrokinetic who was only at the rally to impress someone (I guess taking part in a mass origin makes for an interesting second date), someone with extensive, extensive connections to the super-villain community and anarchist sympathies (powers to be determined) and a Canadian day tripper (powers to be determined). I think at 26 my character is the oldest by half a decade. This is for a group being put together by a law-and-order mayor. I can see no way this can go horribly wrong.
