question about the first book of 2012

If I am reading a book at 11:59 PM Dec 31 and the clock rolls over and then I finish the book before heading off to bed, is that the first book of 2012, or is the book I pick up the next day the first book?

My one New Year's Resolution

has to do with a previous poll option:

All e-ARCs and such should come with a water-mark that announces the publisher thinks the reviewer might be a thief while making the book nearly impossible to read

It occurs to me ignoring the watermark the publisher went to so much trouble to provide me with is rude. From now on, I will do my best - subject to the better judgment of my editors - to remember to review the text-obscuring watermarks as well as the bits of the text I can make out.
