We're into the part of the year where a route I use routinely becomes impassible because daily melt/freeze cycles reliably turn a 10 meter stretch into black ice.

On examination the only pre-20th century dramas I own on DVD, with the exception of The Mission and Master and Commander, are set in China or Japan.

I wonder what the odds are that the Patterson Heinlein bio will get a nod under Best Related Book?

Key Porter Books, one of the last independent Canadian publishers of any size, underwent a second round of death throes this week that left it without a spring list and no plans to continue publishing books in the future.

Zombie books seem to have a set of conventions almost as rigid as return to the Moon stories.

This may be because "the zombie uprising failed when it turned out most the dead couldn't get out of their coffins and the unburied dead were outnumbered 5000 to 1 and generally found in locked rooms" is a funny once short story.

PASADENA, Calif. -- NASA's Kepler mission confirmed the discovery of its first rocky planet, named Kepler-10b. Measuring 1.4 times the size of Earth, it is the smallest planet ever discovered outside our solar system.

From the Haikasoru website:

A big box of Mardock Scramble has arrived and we’re giving away four copies! You may remember our last contest in November, and this one will be similar in that it’s an essay contest.
