I Can Haz Ventolin
Apr. 25th, 2008 09:39 amI finally went to my doctor and got a prescription for my puffer. I don't actually feel any better and I was barking like a seal at one point but I am assured that I am in fact doing better than on previous days. For one thing, I can now finish a full sentence without coughing.
But that's not what I wanted to post about.
It happened that a lot of high schools let out as the bus I was on was working its way across town. Two teenaged girls ended up in front of me and somehow they got on the subject of textbooks. One of them was complaining how ancient her history text book was (although she also admitted they hadn't got past WWII so that didn't matter). Her proof of unspeakable antiquity? The book is so old it thinks the US president is

Unsurprising but

SANDWORMS OF DUNE Herbert, Brian 8/7/2007
Anderson, Kevin J.
The DUNE sequels are attacked by the DUNE prequels! Who will
win? Not the readers.
This is supposedly the final volume in the DUNE series but I
wouldn't be surprised if it turned out Brian and Kev squeezed out a
few more.

Shades of the 1970s
Apr. 25th, 2008 02:40 pmA few weeks ago, I bought two loaves of bread because they were 2 for $4.00.
Yesterday I saw the same brand of bread on sale at 2 loaves for $4.44.
I don't know if it matters that it was in two different Zehrs stores.
[Update: Nope. The same brand at a third Zehrs is 2 for $4.44]
[Update to the update: Yes, that said 4. I should stop posting at night]

Return to the Maple Syrup Festival
Apr. 25th, 2008 11:31 pmOr rather the stroller issue.
One of the most aggressively wielded strollers was empty. A number of FoFs encountered that woman and her giant, empty stroller during the Festival and at no point did it have kids in it. If I recall correctly (because I meant to post about this a while ago but forgot) there were also some other mysteriously childless strollers being plowed through crowds.
Hmmmm.
Just a fluke that several women got stuck handling strollers after they left their kids somewhere for a perfectly good reason that precluded leaving the stroller or were they actually using empty strollers as a tool to force their way through crowds? If the latter, has this method spread or is it peculiar to this region?
