The shells from American weapon are said to reach 150 km altitude at their midpoint to the target. From that, I *think* it might be firing the rounds at about 2.5 km/s. This isn't quite enough to let the USN pot away at satellites in Low Earth Orbit @ a grand a shot but it's getting there.
