(There's a story on how Joss Wheden approaches fiction that I would like to use as well if only I thought to do this entry a few weeks ago but it's long since lost in the mists of the net. Let's just say that there are basic reasons why any Whedon series will eventually drive me up the wall, even leaving aside _that_ series)
I'm thinking that there are at least two possible approaches to writing and reading stories and that for someone on Bruce's side of the fence, people on my side of the fence are going to appear hyper-judgmental, because the criteria by which we judge a story aren't important to them. For me, realizing that the story I'm reading has basic flaws in world-building [1] or that the logic driving the narrative is broken is likely to ruin the story for me. Once I see something that doesn't make sense rationally, the other attributes of the story aren't usually weighty enough to compensate.
Given where I saw the first link to this, it would be interesting to poll editors to see how many are on my side of the fence and how many on Bruce's. My gut feeling is that I must be in the minority on this, judging by what crosses my desk.
