[Poll #1430144]

For the record, I have not seen it because I pretty much hate almost all the characters on Torchwood and I think the writers need remedial writing classes (I suspect the two are related).

You left out "Don't have access to that channel" . . .

Either you've seen it or not. Why you didn't see it would be a different poll.

I'm not sure which I dislike more: Torchwood or Hustle. And then there's House...

For the record I voted "I have seen it and I liked it", despite having given up on Torchwood near the start of the first season for precisely the reasons you give.

I also think that you'd still hate Torchwood: Children of Earth, but for slightly different reasons.

(For me it finally began living up to its theoretical premise as an adult Doctor Who; Children of Earth resembled something like a cross between Quatermass and Spooks.)

I have not seen it but don't have any strong feelings about it yet one way or the other. Despite how much howling I've seen on my friends list about it, which I've been doing my best to ignore because I don't want spoilers. :P And despite my best efforts at ignoring the howling, I've still had at least two plot points spoilered for me. GODDAMMIT PEOPLE.

I enjoy Torchwood, like I enjoy Doctor Who - and also House. That's about half the list of TV shows I actually watch by choice right there. (the other half consists of Scrubs, Family Guy, and Futurama. And Robot Chicken, so it's slightly less than half.)

A friend of mine has been posting notes about how "Children of Earth" is much more mature than the previous Torchwood stuff. My reaction was to wonder if that meant that the characters weren't doing a lot of ill-considered boinking and had developed into a functional organization, or if they were doing even more boinking.

Haven't seen it, but have heard enough good reviews to be tempted.

(X) I have not seen it and *gasp!* won't judge its quality until I have.

In writing, production and performance, Children of Earth is a vast improvement on previous Torchwood series.

Never bothered watching Torchwood before so it was like a stand alone series and one I thought was very good. The best performance wasn't from a regular, mind.

People who have watched the previous series and were more invested in the repeat characters seem to me more likely to dislike it.

I haven't seen any "Torchwood" yet and am not interested enough to complain about it or praise it (but thanks, fans, I know all about CoE now, which means I don't have to watch it). For some reason, I'm even less interested in watching it than I am in watching modern "Doctor Who," which is saying something.

There is also the chance that someone might have seen only some of it (although I think its reasonable to ignore because that's probably rare). The main missing ground appears to be for anyone who has any sort of neutral option... you simply can't tell if they are ambivalent to seeing it at all or if they simply were bored with it.

The thing about House is that last season's finalé is also the perfect ending for the entire series. I certainly can't see them ever improving on that so it's a good reason to never watch an episode again. This isn't the first time this has happened for me. It's sort of like jumping the shark, only it really isn't because I don't expect the series to have substantially changed and that next season will be at least as good as what's come before... it's only that if the series comes back from this it'll have to end in a different way and I can't conceive of that being anywhere appropriate as this ending.

I'm guessing, "I have read a Wikipedia page about the series and am guardedly interested." isn't an audience segment of concern.

Yeah, this is where I am (although without spoilers). Never seen it, haven't felt like I was missing anything, but really don't care one way or another.

After the whole Firefly experience*, I'm not likely to bother ever watching it.

Just not a tv person.

*Had friends proselytize to me about it for YEARS, finally broke down and watched it last year sometime - and was like, "Meh". I don't see people being quite as fanatical about Torchwood as they were about firefly, so I can only imagine my response as being an even more anemic "meh".

Seen it, liked some parts, hated some parts, and really wish writers would stop taking relationship advice from Joss Wheadon.

Children of Earth is _quite_ different in tone and content than previous Torchwood. IIRC, it had a different writer; you may want to give it a try. I thought it was _very_ good, both in writing, characterization, and presentation.

Also, due to a massive slaughter at the end of the previous season of Torchwood, the only returning characters in Children of Earth were Gwen, her husband whose name I can't recall, Ianto, and Captain Jack.

For perspective, I enjoyed the previous seasons of Torchwood, but in a popcorny sort of way; "Children of Earth" was more toward the serious drama end of the scale.

Bah. Mind you, I never got the sense the writers understood why that character was so objectionable.

(It's recorded and waiting for me to see it. My children tell me it was good.)
