This detached from a car as it passed me. Missed me, hit a snow bank. When I returned from work, it was still there, so I collected it.

Not sure what happened, except the car's bumper also (mostly) detached.

You should follow the lead of archaeologists and call it a ritual object.

My Classics prof, Trevor Hodge, liked the phrase "it was of religious significance", with considerable sarcasm. "Those little ceramic jars with strips of metal and dried-out chemical salts? Oh, they were of religious significance." He was very enthusiastic about practical archaeology, attempting to reproduce processes and artifacts.
