Murderous innkeepers seems to be a multi-cultural problem. In real life, there was a notorious innkeeper along the Ohio River frontier who used to dispose of lone travelers who wouldn't be missed. One of Karl Edward Wagner's Kane stories involves a murder inn like that, and one of Robert E. Howard's Soloman Kane stories involves a murderous innkeeper and an undead sorceror in the Black Forest.
That image has been widely used around the web in articles of many places and many topics. I guessed that it was from Iceland - a canyon carved out by repeated jokullhaups - and when one examines the URL it is attributed to Iceland. It would seem to be the Fjadrargljufur Canyon, also known as the Green Canyon.
