Now that I've listened to this I suspect a slight speech defect, which as a person who fought with rhotacism for years, I won't criticize.

He pretty much says straight out that he has a speech impediment in earlier videos, and asks viewers to turn on captions if they have trouble understanding him.

I did wonder what accent that was.

There was a Glaswegian fan active in UK fandom many years ago who English fans had trouble understanding. They thought it was just a thick Glasgow accent but it turned out that he had a speech impediment and the Glasgow fans had trouble understanding him, too.
