Sad male fan capitalizes on way to be even more creepy to female fans.

As seen on a wide variety of LJ accounts. I have to say there's a clear consensus on the idea of treating women's bodies as public commons and it's not heading in the direction of commutarian touching. Who could have predicted that outcome?

My daughter is 14 and I wouldn't have a problem specifically with her knowing about this -- if only because it would give us more fodder for conversation about her autonomy over her body. I'm presently dealing with the school board because she was removed from a class event and made to present herself to a female teacher and bend over so that the teacher could determine whether her t-shirt sufficiently blocked one's view of her breasts -- keeping in mind, of course, that she was not transgressing the dress code, and that she checks this for herself in the mirror when she selects her clothing because she does not like boys looking down her shirt. So, this is a subject nearer and dearer to my heart at present than my own breasts. But bringing her to a con where the barriers to harassment were LOWER than they are in general society? No. Not really.

It really is. The fact that women's breasts are such a friggin' battleground from the time you get them is one that makes the pomposity whole BUTTON crap, well, crap. I really don't need some guy to come up with an idea to liberate my child or any other woman from the strain of having to invite or not invite attention to her breasts.

As a teacher I am deeply disturbed that they would force your daughter to, in essence, present herself to them for display. If I notice a kid wearing something too revealing, I'll send them to the Youth Service Center to get a shirt. But I am not going to ever ask a girl to bend over so that I can see how much of her breasts she is revealing. I mean, A) ew, and B) so so inappropriate, and C) just asking to get yourself in trouble. WTF. I do hope you kick their butts on this issue.

Yeah, it was more an illustration of how women don't OWN their breasts even at an age when a person's body should be PARTICULARLY inviolate, but the superintendent and I have already had one talk and I'll be seeing her in person soon.
