Not wanting to waste Hev’s timely discovery of the hidden door, I carefully made my way across the room and through the exit; my companions were curiously far slower than I to take advantage of the opportunity but soon joined me. Hev, being gifted in matters of subterranean construction in the manner of his people, secured the door, leaving us free to explore the cramped tunnel.

It seemed likely the archers who fired on us were somewhere ahead and better we surprise them than the other way around. Being naturally stealthy, as one might guess from my self-effacing nature, it fell to me to scout out the tunnel.

Although our ambush began well, the other side did not seem to feel under any obligation to simply collapse on the spot. How inconsiderate. Still, after a few exchanges, we were all still standing (if short a few pints of blood) while they had been reduced to a single soldier.

The sole off note came as I loosed what should have been a magnificent shot at one of our foes. In astoundingly poor timing, Ander moved his head into the path of my arrow. He was quite brusque with me as well, despite the plain fact had he not moved, the arrow would have missed him by a good two inches. None are more fond of humans than I but sometimes they can be very unreasonable.

Our prisoner’s very nature was revealing. It seems we may encountered some sort of serpent cult, the cult of Dendar. At least, all the soldiers, who appear to have begun as standard model humans, have gained reptilian features.

Our prisoner was baffled as to why we attacked them, unaware that we were utterly innocent of aggression. None of the cult seems not to have heard us yell out that we came in peace. O the embarrassment.

(Did we call that out or did Dorritt rely on telepathic contact? I am sure we must have shouted. In any case, the fellow Dorritt touched should have relayed the message to his fellows.)

Ignoring the prisoner’s demand for reparations (save for the small shiny stone Dorritt gave him, as is her way), we left him tied up for his allies to rescue. May they treat us as kindly if we are overpowered.

The section we were in appeared to have a dead end. Hev, nearly as sharp-eyed as an elf, discovered a second hidden tunnel, one our hosts seem not to be aware of. Covering our tracks as we went, we made our way to a section of the complex our foes had no idea we could reach.

Evidence suggests that our hosts are sadly numerous and that they have trained dinosaurs (or perhaps war chickens) with them as well. Various trophies suggest we would be ill-advised to be taken alive and unlikely to be offered the chance.

Not everything we found was disquieting. The brigands had two chests, which proved to contain a large quantity of gold coins. Since these were no doubt stolen from innocent travellers and naive dupes of the cult, we confiscated the gold. There was also a large purple robe with cult symbols, a circlet of some sort, a rapier, and a bottle filled with an unidentified fluid.

The rapier is of high quality, better than my current sword. I have taken it for my own. I believe I shall name it Admonition, the new companion for my dagger, Pointed Commentary.

The conversations echoing through the tunnels confirmed that our foes have no idea that we are behind them. We’ve taken advantage of this to continue our search, adding several hundred more coins, and three jewels to the list of items these scoundrels have appropriated. It seems unlikely we shall ever know the names of the proper owners; it is our duty to spend the treasures in the name of good.

Mere Iyoun pebbles of no magical significance whatever, surely?

Inconsequential gravel which derives no supervening importance from the context & circumstances of its donation, I am sure.

Definitely nothing there to draw the attention of any sort of supernatural and/or transdimensional beings who might seek any method whatever to intervene in the affairs of mortals, no doubt.

Moreover, I have complete confidence no DM whatever anywhere might read this comment and get nasty ideas. ;^)
