I _do_ like urban fantasy and paranormal romance, and I couldn't finish this one. Bailed about a hundred pages in after Asshole McWolfyFace was an asshole once too often.

I've read several books in this series, but the relationship between Elena and Clayton has always bothered me. Clayton does something completely horrible to her, and yet we're supposed to believe that she freely chose to return to him. It really wouldn't have taken much to have there relationship start out at a better place, but Armstrong decided this was the way to go. BTW, the rest of the series is less romance, and more mystery.

There was something I particularly liked about the tone of the writing in this book, that did not survive into the entire world of sequels; can't quite remember what it was, but it was distinctive.

I really liked the guy she was living with at the beginning (Philip?), and was disappointed he wasn't a recurring character.

When I first started reading urban fantasy I found it interesting how most settings tell us female werewolves are super rare, yet that's what most of the series protagonists are.

Kitty Norville will tell you female werewolves are all over the place. Indeed, one might be on the radio right now!

Can you name three from that series? Armstrong was an extreme case, but female werewolves are definitely rarer than male. Though this may simply be the usual sexism in that a 25% female cast is too much estrogen for audiences to handle.

In Kitty's series that's not a problem.
