The more reviews I read of this series, the more they remind me of the Anita Blake series by Laurel Hamilton.

Well, except at no point does character development or plot get derailed by a descent into tediously written porn.

Another important difference is that Blake was (at least to begin with) a monster-killer in a draconian legal system, whereas Angel and her pals are trying to co-exist with humans. The shamblers are sick, and the real monsters are the humans who are trying to exploit the zombies.

Ah. Right. For the most part, Angel isn't the one with the shiny new powers and the one time she was, it turned out she'd discovered the zombie analog of cocaine.

There's comics character named variously "Shreck" and apparently "Terror Inc." (possibly for tax or other legal convenience, since due to his condition he's probably legally dead) who acquires people's abilities - and feelings - by replacing his body parts with theirs (ewwwww). Parts from super-powered person come with the super-power; Wikipedia thinks it has to be a body part associated with the power e.g. "Iron Fist". Citation needed.

Wikipedia also says, "Though the body parts bond permanently with Terror, they are still dead tissue and will begin to decay at their natural rate. This gives Terror a distinctive odor" - uh, right.

Also, "Marvel Zombies", as well as a criticism of readers who follow this sort of thing too closely, is a comics series with the premise "What if all the superheroes turned into zombies and they ate everybody else in the world at super-speed." What I saw of this was "much bickering amongst the ex-heroes about how they're still hungry".
