"I don't subscribe to the principle that there are good Muslims and bad Muslims," Deady told me by phone from his home in New Hampshire. "They're all Muslims."

Charming fellow.

IMHO, it's the word 'necessarily' that gives the line it's chillingly psychopathic edge.

Cos, y'know, if they all see the errors of their ways and convert to an acceptable religion we won't have to hurt them.

Kind of like Dale Gribble on "King of the Hill", upon learning that a character was Jewish: "There's nothing wrong with that in and of itself."

Cheer up. He's not being a "bigot", he's being "factual". Of course that's the typical Right-wing "Our facts may not match anyone else's reality" version of "factual".

And unfortunately, I don't think an "anybody but a Republican" campaign will have much steam.

And natch, there's people (I use this term loosely) in the comments section to that story, agreeing with him.

I feel a little ill...

That man's intelligence...well, it's debatable. One look at the remarks attributed to him would make that clear.

"When a mere campaign volunteer to Hillary got caught forwarding the madrassa email about Barack Obama, it was national news for days and she had to quit the campaign. While the parallel isn't perfect, Deady's comments are more explosive than the act of forwarding the email is, and Deady is more than a mere volunteer to Rudy's campaign."

Enh, it's not that cut-and-dried: Hillary's volunteer was distributing a direct smear against an opponent, which is a violation of campaign ethics and a sackable offense. This guy's just mouthing off on another topic, and as far as I can see he's not trying to represent it as anybody's views but his own. Rudy definitely needs to repudiate his statements (maybe "ask him to resign", or reassign him to a less prominent position) but firing him outright for his views?

A better parallel would be Amanda Marcotte.

Is it just me, or are the Republicans seriously in the middle of a complete circus sideshow? Normally by this point the top-tier candidates start to put distance between them and the also-ran and nutbar candidates, things tighten up and there aren't as many utterly insane actions going on.
