I don't know if a smaller device would be a problem for you, but I really love my Palm TX (which is half the weight)--not only does it keep all my appointments and to-do lists, but it's a perfectly good e-book reader, and will run multiple kinds of files. (Not Microsoft Reader (.lit), but it's very easy to turn those into HTML, which then gives you lots of options.)

I have dozens of books on mine, and more on the external memory card, and I love it.

You can get them for considerably under list price on eBay.

I would love something like that, but the screen size might be an issue for me, I'm afraid. :( A friend actually offered to lend me one (I should clarify that it's not vision issues for me specifically, it's a processing/headaches/etc thing) but so far, carrying around an old Dell (the little ones that ran about 2 pounds) has worked best (and, hey, word processing and wireless!).

It's hard to tell until I've used something for a while, whether or not it'll be an issue. I have a Nintendo DS that was great fun for a bit, and then it wasn't. It's so cute though. All shiny! I'll do a lot for shiny. *shame*
