I don't know why.

File 770's Personal Thoughts About the Fan Hugos

In the last culture war between faanish and sercon fans, the former were offended by all those darn book review zines hogging space on the Hugo ballot.

That seems odd. Is there even a point to the sort of fandish behavior Hugo voters are interested in rewarding if it is not somehow rooted in an appreciation for the genre(s), both print and the lesser other media?

Everybody uses the Web now. The Cool Kids and the Old Pharts haven’t been divided between pixels and paper for years. Did you notice there were only 14 paper ballots out of 1006 cast?

I did not but now I know.

To suspect Confused's lack of comprehension in this discussion on the World SF Blog of Nick Mamatas' sarcastic comment “At least SFWA managed to, for the most part, hold back the tide of black and brown people on the nominating ballot,” is feigned rather than genunine?

[Also, I wonder if O'Neil and Adams had any idea how long people would be making oblique references to that panel?]

Victoria Day (in French: Fête de la Reine) is a federal Canadian statutory holiday celebrated on the last Monday on or before May 24, in honour of both Queen Victoria's birthday and the current reigning Canadian sovereign's official birthday. It is sometimes informally considered as marking the beginning of the summer season in Canada.

In honour of the day, I have donned shorts, t-shirt and comfy sandals.
