[Cuba's government announced there may be more than 20bn barrels of recoverable oil in offshore fields in Cuba's share of the Gulf of Mexico, more than twice the previous estimate.

I question the use of the word "lucky" in that article. Firstly, there's the issue of Cuba being hit with the so-called Dutch Disease so that when the oil does run out, their economy is even less suited to function on the international stage than it is today. As well, being oil-rich and next to the most heavily armed nation on the planet, one with a history of intervening in the region and one with a grudge against Cuba is not necessarily a combination that spells "happy ending" to me.

Well, maybe they can buy/lease a nuclear deterent from China.

What this photo needs is a caption! Feel free to supply one.

Nicked from Making Light, although I have certainly seen the photo elsewhere on the net.

The background story for that shot.

1: Note: Rhetorical expostulation. Does not contain actual kingdom.

Jack Tingle described this MilSF/lesbian romance novel as "good-but-odd", which is enough for me to point out the link [1]. KS Augustin has made their War Games available under a Creative Commons licence.

1: the idea being that someone else will check this out for me.
