io9: a new SF-related site, apparently related to Gawker.

Scalzi's comments on same.

My announcement concerning the two links above.

Prediction: the comment thread about io9 at Whatever will grow faster than all of the comment threads at io9, at least for the next couple of days.

I'm two episodes in.

Was the stunt double for SMG always so obviously a double? I'm getting I'm Gonna Git You Sucka flash-backs every time there's a fight.

Wasn't there some unpleasantness about the double in one season? Something about an impolitic comment from the fight choreographer?

I admit up front that cogitation is not vampiredom's strong point but what exactly did Dracula expect to happen after he put a Slayer in touch with her true self? How does that plan end well?

It just arrived in the mail.

The backdrop they used for the photo is only a few shades paler than I am and the photo is bit over-exposed so there's a cheshire-cat effect where the boundary between the backdrop and my head is hard to spot. On the plus side, they've somehow got my face to look a lot more symetric than it is.

Pardon me for a bit while I go juggle flaming chain-saws.

World War II had a significant impact.[citation needed]

Don't turn to Moskowitz for a citation. As I recall his The Immortal Storm [1] WWII comes as something of an anti-climax to the world-shattering struggles of American fandom in the pre-war era.

1: Which I don't, aside from having an overwhelming desire to MAKE THE PAIN STOP. It turns out putting the book down accomplished just that.
