I'm half tempted to pick up a copy. It sounds like it's a more "realistic" setting than the unicorns and moonflowers a lot of YA fantasy settings seem to be.

Oh, and found a typo: "Her knowledge of agic could help in her quest." I think "agic" is really "magic".

You'll be pleased to know that this question plays a smallish role in character relationships in the sequel. My 8 year old and I both loved these books.
