If blurbs can be trusted, the author's upcoming A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping is more similar to Very Secret.

As an alternative to genetics, I wonder if the witches have considered whether magic is teratogenic: enough exposure to magic may give one magical powers. And of course a fetus in the womb of a witch would get a lot of exposure.
