In an uncommon turn for famed author Card, he presents a very special boy in very difficult circumstances faced with great responsibility. What will the Young People make of it?

Orson Scott Card needs to be left in the obscurity he so richly deserves.

Some of the works are deserving of the attention the author is not. As soon as he drops I might ask James how much it would cost to do Maps in a Mirror.

Bringing his name and work into the public discourse gives him legitimacy he needs to lack. Better to wait until he's dead and his homophobia dead with him.
For you it may be academic, but he wants me and mine dead. That's unacceptable.

Like I said, once he drops. Keels over. Kicks the bucket. Pops his clogs. Assumes room temperature. Runs down the curtain and joins the choir invisible.

And so until then he needs to be ignored. Completely.

This is by far the best critique and discussion I've seen from this series.

Absolutely. It didn't make me want to read the story (admittedly, there is zero chance I will ever read any more of Card's work) but the analysis and discussion were first-rate.

NB: This was reviewed in passing by James in the larger review of Analog's Children of the Future (ed.: Stanley Schmidt.)
