For some reason it reminds me of the Hallmark Hall of Fame production of The Secret Garden where at the end we learn that Dickon died at the Argonne Forest. Which is right up there with the idea that Tom Sawyer probably joined the Confederate Army and spent the rest of his life glorifying the Lost Cause in the "Please stop ruining beloved children's books with realistic historical context."
