To my cat, Ibid

It's good that you have a Timmy's Down the Well meow of distress but the fact two other cats are grooming each other and ignoring you is not an appropriate use for it.

How large is Ibid's vocabulary?

As I've noted before, Leo has at least a dozen different ways of saying "I want food," and they all sound like he's in pain.

Well, he IS!

Awww, poor neglected Ibid!

Guest Cat (cat of our houseguest) really does have the "I'm dying" meow down. Unfortunately, he uses it to mean "I'm hungry," "I can't find you," "I don't want to be here," and "OH GOD THERE ARE OTHER CATS."

I have not heard this, but houseguest indicates that the cat can also, at will, do pitbull impressions. He is apparently a cat of great vocal talents.

Our cat uses the same noise for everything, including "I'm about to barf."

Guarantees a response...

I'd love to measure our orange cat's decibel level, he can be heard through several closed doors (yes, I know, a closed door is an emergency to a cat). His emergency siren is always in response to not getting attention RIGHT NOW.

I am reminded of this, which makes me laugh inordinately every time I read it: http://rushthatspeaks.livejournal.com/505932.html

Thanks for the chuckle.

But, the important question is: did it work?

Twit's "I'm going to barf" noises are quite distinct from her "Brush me NOW, slave" noises. She doesn't seem to make "I want food" noises so much as she pats me with her paw or bumps against me to indicate the food is lacking.

Of course, she rarely wants food, as I have to keep the food bowls topped up at all times. If there is a period of no food, then food, Twit gorges and then barfs.

The other two cats are obese. When Twit (who is seventeen) dies, they are going on a diet. Woe is them.

Sadly we are down to only Bruno (losing two to the same damn thing in the span of seven months SUCKS, let me tell you), who used to live in our garage, and since moving in last December has gained five pounds and resembles an Airstream in a cat suit.

He has a multiplicity of vocalizations, which can be categorized as "Timmy's Down The Well Full Of Acid In the Burning Barn Full Of Aliens with Lasers" and "mrph". He uses these to communicate any of the following: the litter box is full of poop, the gushy dish is empty, the kibble dish is empty, people have hands but they are not petting me, nobody is rubbing my ears, nobody is rubbing my belly, and, did I mention the gushy dish was empty?
