Thomas Gold

Can anyone recommend a good biography for him? And while we are at it, one for Sir Fred Hoyle as well?

I'd be surprised if you could find a book-length biography of either scientist.

Magazine articles would probably be your best bet. Also, they make appearances in chapters of various science and history books. None of whose titles come to mind at the moment.

An Amazon search of index pages may be in order.

Really? But they were both so colourful, you think they'd be great subjects for a biography.

Sir Fred Hoyle

I don't know of any biographies, but Hoyle wrote a fairly well regarded autobiography:

Home Is Where the Wind Blows: Chapters from a Cosmologist's Life (University Science Books, 1994)
