Idle thought inspired by watching part of Cat On a Hot Tin Roof

What if rather than Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the early X-Men had been written by Jack Kirby and Tennessee Williams?

Obviously, we can keep Xavier's mansion but it will have to be moved to Mississippi.

And the drama would triple and there would be sexual overtones all over the place.

(I'm going to miss Night of the Iguana tonight. Again.)

I read your subject line as "Cat in the Hat on a Hot Tin Roof".

I googled "Cat in the Hat on a Hot Tin Roof" and got zero hits. It's amazing, no one has ever done a parody with that title.

I got nine hits (a couple of them from here) but, yeah, not much has been done with that. New Yorker cartoon opportunity!

I can tell you that Jean Grey would be a lot more interesting.

The spin-off comic is of course "The X-Menagerie".

I note that in the early issues, everyone on the team -including Xavier- was smitten with telepathic Miss Grey, almost as though she was using her powers to bewitch them...

It does occur to me the X-Men didn't run into a second tolerable female until Jean Grey was distracted. Hmm. I'm sure that's not suspicious at all.

It's not her fault; she couldn't help herself; she didn't even know it was happening.

It was an entire school full of teenagers... and just one girl. Of course they all liked Jean. (No, I don't know what Professor X's excuse was.)

He's a telepath, so he was being subconsciously influenced by all those young men lusting after her.

There would be more Rogue and Gambit?

I was going to say that Rogue's accent would be more convincing, but James is talking about the Lee/Kirby X-Men, so no Rogue or Gambit yet. The Chris Claremont X-Men would presumably be written by someone else. I nominate Djuna Barnes.

Actually they'd have terrible Brooklyn accents instead.

[identity profile] agharta75.livejournal.com 2014-06-21 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
And why doesn't X-Men have mutants with terrible Brooklyn accents? Or, even better, terrible Jersey Shore accents!

Not until someone with ice powers showed up, because nobody ever wants to do anything in the South when there's no AC.

What city would serve as the hub of Marvel's heroes in general?

Atlanta? Memphis?
