You are totally right. I didn’t notice the file size because I often find LJ loads slowly, and the image was not one that over-ran all margins and ate screen.
I know what it is - the big fire pit in Russia that has been burning for many years - but a smaller or more compressed image might have been a good idea.
I visited the site in 2006, and it's absolutely stupendous. A tremendous waste of natural gas, but an unforgettable experience to visit. At night, flocks of birds circle around hunting the flying insects attracted by the light, and from a distance they seem to blink in and out of existence like formations of UFOs.
