I believe the standard LJ approach is to stonewall for rather too long, and then afterwards admit to error much too late to recover the lost goodwill.

It's well over 8000 now. Mind you, since it passed 5000, about a third of the comments are complaining about the captcha for logged-in users, and another third are patiently explaining that that always happens in 5000+ comment threads. The remaining third are still overwhelmingly negative about the new layout. At least the flurry of autoplaying music videos sees to have died down.

The latest news post does suggest that the PTB are at least thinking about paying some attention.
