Also talking about Doonesbury

Have Sam and Alex ever met? I assume they have (I can recall Mike and BD getting together and presumably sometimes they drag along the kids) but I don't recall it happening.

Does Sam ever get plot-lines not related to the adults around her?

Didn't they talk about BD's PTSD status at one point (while Mike and BD listened and Mike glared at BD for letting things get so bad)? Or am I thinking of someone else / getting all the names wrong entirely?

I think you're right.

Hmm. Good second question. She's usually a foil to Zonker's madness--sort of Honey to his benevolent Uncle Duke. She's definitely much less an independent character than Alex Doonesbury is.

I do recall them having a conversation about Sam being scared of BD's anger. The phrase that sticks in memory is "and then Mommy powers off his leg".

She's younger

internal evidence suggests tweens/early teens to Alex's 18-20.

I don't think Alex had any independent plotlines eight or ten years ago, though I welcome correction.
