As coincidence would have it, I am currently reading (for the first and last time) Sixth Column, which may be worse than this if only because John W. Campbell was involved.

Drooping a moon on Mars to kill the inhabitants seems very similar to what Brennan does to the Martians in Larry Niven's Protector. Niven actually outlined several Buck Rogers reboot books, so that probably isn't a coincidence.

Today I learned, and my husband solemnly confirmed, that Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon are neither the same character nor the same series. How I managed to not quite understand this for over fifty years, I do not know.
