Went looking for a copy of this, and... if you don't want to sell your copy of Survivor, but need some quick cash, the least I found unexpected stories for online was $200 us.

The library of America has an omnibus with 7/9 of the contents of bloodchild and other stories, plus 1/2 of the stories from this, plus two novels that I already have copies of.

Unexpected Stories surprised me also in its not-in-print-ness. The only available edition appears to be as an audiobook.

I know I've read this but, unusually for me with a Butler book, I have no memory at all of its contents...

I vaguely recall that the ebook version of Unexpected Stories was taken off the market due to a dispute over whether the rights had been properly secured.

There was a Butler ebook bundle a few years ago (ie within the last decade) that I think included both Unexpected Stories and Survivor, and is where I got Unexpected Stories. I subsequently sent my spare copy of Survivor to a friend in Australia.

I read all of Butler's work then available in 2016, in chronological order. If any of your readers are interested it's here:

If I recall correctly, _Survivor_ also features a blue superior caste (furred rather than skinned?) and the idea of crippling one of them to use as a figurehead. I wonder if Butler decided to salvage the usable bits of her least-favourite work.

I recall the same about _Survivor_. (And I have a copy on my shelf, for that matter.)

Handy to find this available on hoopladigital just as I was looking for a new audiobook.
