I live in San Jose, which is not part of San Francisco, despite being near it. (And I remember when the World Cup was at Stanford, and was billed as the "San Francisco World Cup.")
You could have simplified your poll by having "California" and "NotCalifornia" as the options.
Santa Cruz, not even actually in the San Francisco Bay Area, though sometimes people seem to include it in "South Bay," which doesn't make sense as we are actually on the _north_ side of the Monterey Bay. Also, mapmakers can't make up their minds as to whether we are in Nrthern r Southern California.
Chicago, city of broad shoulders, gorgeous skyline, scruffy politics, big problems, lively theater, incredible food, and eccentrically bad (and occasionally awesome) sports teams.
Sunnyvale, CA. I sometimes get mail addressed to Sunnydale. No, we're the other town with a hell mouth. (2 cities south of Stanford, snugged up to Cupertino, home of Apple)
Southern Louisiana, which is occasionally part of the South and occasionally another country altogether and quite often not connected to the northern part of the state.
