Reminiscent of the long-dead population of Easter Island , humanity is stuck in a solar system-sized bubble and, as time ticks away, they can’t help but cannibalize everything good in their ever-failing quest to leave the solar system behind.

Might have had something to do with the whole "We're here to liberate you, you papist frogs!" and "Yeah, drove you out of your homes once, so we think we'll do it again" vibe that the Yanks had going.

The awesome thing is that they learned nothing in 1776 and 1812 about hearts and minds; in the Utah War, the Americans expected Utahish women to rise up in support of their gentile liberators, who would bring with them the freedom of being bound to one man with no other wives. Hilarity etc.

Personally, I think getting British, French and Indians to put aside 150 years of trying to kill one another in order to fight together deserves some credit.

Funniest thing about 1812? When you read some of the statements made by Copperhead politicians, you'd be forgiven if you weren't sure if was Southern congressmen speaking about the easy conquest of Canada or their political descendants representing many of the same areas 191 years later discussing the anticipated cakewalk significantly further east.
